New Year, New Post

Well I haven't blogged in a long while and things on the windowsill have been moving pretty slowly but we do have movement and the leaves, spring onions and garlic that I planted back in November are all plodding away nicely. The growth rate is considerably slower than it was for the plants that were out in the windowboxes over the summer but for such little plants they do seem to have coped remarkably well with all of the snow they've been bombarded with!

Here's the first pictures of how the windowsill is doing in 2011...

Our three garlic bulbs have all sprouted...

...our spring onions have sprung...

...and our winter leaves are looking strong (although I'm not sure we've got enough for a salad!!)

  2. Nice to see that you still have stuff growing. I think one of my garlic cloves has sprouted but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the others...

  3. Hi Amy,

I don't know how the garlic comes in those packs, but did you plant three individual cloves or three whole heads?

I just started my year's sowing today so thought I'd pop by and see how your window sill was looking. It's odd to see spring shoots already, I might have a go at some early spring onions too. Are you going to be putting them outside or ate they staying on the warm side of the glass?

  5. Thanks for all of the comments guys. Great to know that you're still around even though I've been gone for a while.

Green Lane Allotments - hope that your garlic is coming along well now - just like the daffodils last year ours has absolutely shot up now that it's started!

Amy - yeah, it's amazing how many things seem to be working out on the little old windowsills.

William - the garlic came as a bulb but I broke it up and just planted three individual cloves back in November. I had intended to plant another three but I never got around to it and I then gave the rest of the pack to someone with more space to garden than I have! All of the stuff that I'm growing at the moment I sowed in the pots whilst they were outside back in November so the spring onions, winter leaves and garlic have all been outside on the windowsill covered by snow, frozen by ice, the works and are still going strong!

Damo - thanks for swinging by. I'll be over to check out Two Chances Veg Plot shortly!
